Grip Of Despair
5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping thriller of a read
Quite often a second book in a series I have found is never as good as the first, but this story was breath holding and tongue biting as the first book. Will Patrick ever get to his children, or Holly get away from the evil nurse that is chasing her. I wanted to jump in the book and help them. There's a bond building between them, Patrick will not leave Holly and Holly does not trust anyone. This is a great series of books to read.
In the icy grip of a post-apocalyptic winter, can a retired ex-cop overcome his demons to protect an escaped psychiatric patient from a relentless pursuer? Enter the chilling world of Grip of Despair, book 2 of the After the End series.
Meet Patrick Dunn, a fifty-something ex-cop, scarred by both physical and emotional wounds, who had just begun his journey to finalizing his third divorce when disaster struck. As an EMP plunges the country into darkness and winter’s icy embrace tightens its hold, Pat’s plans are shattered. His central desire is clear: to keep Holly safe, a vulnerable woman he encounters on the desolate road. Holly, a victim of wrongful institutionalization since the age of 14, seizes her chance for freedom during the EMP chaos, with her steadfast canine companion, Butler, by her side.
However, danger lurks as Nurse Julian, intent on getting Holly back to the hospital, relentlessly pursues her, turning their treacherous journey into a high-stakes pursuit. As the elements conspire against them, Pat and Holly must summon unimaginable strength to survive.
In a winter-stricken Oregon, the battle between good and evil rages on. Pat, haunted by his past and burdened by OCD, must confront his inner demons to protect those he cares about. Holly, once frail and vulnerable, finds newfound resilience in the face of adversity.
Readers of post-apocalyptic fiction will be drawn to this gripping tale of human tenacity, where courage shines even in the darkest hour. Join Patrick, Holly, and Butler as they navigate a snow-covered landscape fraught with danger and discover the unyielding Grip of Despair.
Grip of Despair is the riveting second book in the brand-new post-apocalyptic EMP survival series. If you like characters that jump off the page, spellbinding action, and edge-of-your-seat drama, then you’ll love bestselling author Sam J Fires’s nail-biting thriller. Perfect for fans of Ryan Schow, Grace Hamilton, Kyla Stone, and Jack Hunt.
